Digital Storytelling Project Leader Reflection

Being the project leader for the digital storytelling project has definitely provided a learning experience for me. I think the online collaboration between me and the other group members was really magnified during the project. Everyone constantly offered suggestions, praise, examples, and help to the other group members. Through this experience as project leader and based on the digital storytelling examples created by the group members, I have come to the realization that digital storytelling can be one of the most powerful learning tools used in the classroom. Digital stories grab students' attention, provide visual and auditory aids, and elicit students' emotion so that they can become active parties in their learning. I plan to use digital storytelling in my SpEd classroom to help address social studies standards required for the GAA and behavioral goals for students' IEPs.

  1. I agree that DST seems to be a very powerful tool that can be used in the classroom. I will definitely be using my example with students once we get to the project on stop motion videos.

  2. The possibilities for using DST in the classroom are exciting --- so adaptable. What roles will your students assume as they develop their videos? Will they work on group videos or individual videos? In Dr. Bennett's video class, we had to assemble a large kit of images, video links, sounds, etc., so that students could pull from this resource to make their videos. It takes some time to assemble the images, etc., but if I were working with younger kids, I would probably go that route. Good luck!
