Project-baseed learning (PBL) is a hot topic in education today. PBL Research Summary: Studies Validate Project-Based Learning depicts different countries, states, cities, and schools that were able to successfully implement PBL. In the article, it seems to be a recurring theme that students attending school who implement PBL consistently demonstrated higher test scores in math, more developed higher order thinking skills, a stronger ability for application to a process, and more enthusiam for learning than students in a traditional direct instruction setting. The article also notes that project-based learning proves to be more effective with the incorporatation of technology.
I feel like this article demonstrates wonderful evidence for teachers and administrators that project-based learning is an effective means for teaching in the math classroom. It seems that with such strong research, schools would not question whether or not to implement project-based learning, but how soon it could be done. Looking at this article has reinforced my opinion that project-based learning is a necessity in the classroom to prepare students for their future.

Don't you think the greatest hindrance would be getting everyone to change the way he currently teaches? There is a little of the "creature of habit" in all of us, and it takes a whole lot more energy to do anything differently than it does to do the same old thing. I see in you, Bethany, a tremendous potential to be the leader for positive change in your school.
